Josh Brown and Kyle Smith Win on Roanoke with 23 pounds!

The Neuse Sport Shop Eastern NC Bass Challenge held its first tournament of 2024 this past weekend on the Roanoke River. This was by far the biggest tournament in the history of the Bass Challenge and the largest on the Roanoke River since 2020. 120 teams competed in this event all competing for our top Neuse Sports Shop 1st place prize of $4,000!

Many good bags of bass were brought to the Bass Challenge scales Saturday afternoon but none were bigger than the 23 pound bag that Josh Brown and Kyle Smith weighed in. They weighed in 23.38 pounds of bass including the tournament big fish which was 8.03 pounds! They were awarded our Nuese Sport Shop 1st-place prize of $4,000 plus an additional $400 Greenville Toyota Big Fish prize. They also won the Triton Gold contingency award which is an additional $8,000! That makes their total winnings $12,400!

After the tournament, Josh Brown talked about their day on the water: “Before blast off we looked at each other and said ‘She’s a ‘lil high & ‘lil muddy, let’s go do our thing.’ Kyle caught his first fish of 2024 on his 5th cast, a 5.66-pounder. It ended up being our third biggest of the day.”

Brown went on to speak about the good karma that likely paid off for them: “We helped some guys that backed off the ramp the week before and a fellow at the gas station Saturday morning that put us behind schedule but was the right thing to do. It’s truly just good karma and we feel blessed to have a day like we did.”

The Bass Challenge paid cash prizes to our top 20 teams in this event. It took 12.30  pounds to finish inside the Bass Challenge money line. We also paid cash rewards for our top 3 big fish winners. A $400 prize for the Greenville Toyota 1st place big fish, a $100 cash prize for our 2nd big fish thanks to Dereks Boxes, and our 3rd big fish winners were awarded a free t-shirt from Striker Apparel.
