This past weekend the Eastern NC Bass Challenge visited the Perquimans River in Hertford, NC for the 1st time in our history. 85 teams competed in our 5th event of the year where we awarded our 1st place winners our Neuse Sports Shop $3,000 1st place prize.
The Perquimans River did not disappoint as we saw the biggest 5 fish limit ever weighed in for an Eastern NC Bass Challenge Tournament. David and Hunter Jones brought a 5 Bass Limit to the scales that weighed 31.62! Every single bass in their bag was over 5 pounds and their big fish was a 9.36-pounder that also won our Greenville Toyota Big Fish prize!
After the tournament, David Hunter talked about their special day on the water: “We made a long rough ride to a place I found pre-fishing on Friday. The wind had a lot of shad pushed onto the bank. I had a lot of bites there Friday but didn’t set the hook on any so I had no idea they were that big. I think we got there around 7:00 am. Our very first fish was the 9-pounder! 3 cast later a 6-pounder, and then we caught 3 more fish all over 5 pounds. We caught all of our fish on a frog. The wind kept building so we left around 9:00 and headed back. We wanted to take it easy on the fish and make sure we got back with no issues.”
David and Hunter were awarded our Neuse Sports Shop 1st Place prize of $3,000 and our Greenville Toyota Big Fish prize of $400.
The Bass Challenge is guaranteeing a minimum of $3,000 to 1st place at every tournament this year thanks to Neuse Sports Shop! Our next stop is Saturday, July 13 on the Roanoke River in Plymouth, NC.
