John Kellett and Adam Baldwin won the 2nd tournament of the season for the Eastern NC Bass Challenge which took place in Washington, NC. 57 teams competed in the tournament which blasted out of Havens Garden. Teams were competing for over $3500 in cash payouts.
In the late afternoon many anglers found conditions to be brutal as a south wind pounded the Pamlico River creating heavy swells. But the team of John Kellett and Adam Baldwin braved the conditions and took the victory with over 16lbs of bass weighed in.
Kellett and Baldwin Take 1st Place and $1500 Prize
John Kellett and Adam Baldwin weighed in a 5 bass limit for 16.35 lbs which was good enough to win 1st place and take home $1500 in cash. They beat the second place team by nearly 2 lbs and also nearly took the big fish prize with a bass that truly anchored their bag which weighed in at 5.68 lbs.
When asked after the tournament by WNCT Channel 9 News, Kellett stated the team “took a beating” getting to their fish. The team is off to a great start in 2019 as they now sit on top of the 2019 Team Points Championship.
2nd Place went to the team of Steve Vann and Skippy Lewis who had a great bag of fish that weighed in at 14.87 lbs. Steve and Skippy were rewarded with $850 for their great work on the Tar/Pamlico River.
The Rest of the Field
Afternoon hours were very tough for anglers as high winds created rough water conditions for some anglers. However, many teams brought solid fish to the scales at Havens Garden. 15 teams weighed in 11 lbs or more in Sundays tournament.
3rd Place was won by Read Samples and John Tedder who weighed in 14.14 lbs and were rewarded with a cash prize of $400. 4th Place was taken by brothers Joe and Brian Haddock who weighed in a 14.11 lb limit of bass. 5th place was won by Ricky Moore and Thomas Dew with 13.36 lbs. 6th place was won by Sammy Hammond and Tommie Chisenhall with 13.25 lbs. And finishing in our last money spot, 7th place was awarded to Derek Whittemore who weighed in 13.10 lbs.
The Fish of the Day
The biggest bass of the tournament was caught by Jim Hipkiss and Dennis Boykin! The team brought in a beautiful bass that weighed in at 5.75 lbs! They took home the Greenville Toyota Big Fish Prize of $350!

2019 Team Points Championship
